METHODOLOGY

How Modelminter builds
Excel-ready models.

Modelminter generates financial models from structured SEC company filing data. The process starts with a company lookup, runs a compatibility preflight, and only creates downloadable workbooks for companies that fit the current modeling templates.

The model-building process

Every model follows the same core pipeline before a file is downloaded.

01

Resolve the company

Users can search by ticker, company name, or CIK. Modelminter resolves the company against the SEC ticker universe before running any model checks.

02

Read structured SEC data

The app uses standardized SEC company filing data, including XBRL Company Facts and filing metadata, to understand available periods, taxonomy, forms, and line-item coverage.

03

Run compatibility preflight

Before a workbook is generated, Modelminter checks whether the issuer has enough compatible reporting history and whether it fits the current model template.

04

Generate the Excel workbook

Compatible companies are converted into an Excel-ready financial model with structured historical data, formulas, and a guide tab for first-time users.

05

Reuse until filings change

Generated models are cached by company and latest filing fingerprint, then reused until a newer compatible SEC filing or a model-template update requires a refresh.

LIMITATIONS

Use models as a starting point

Modelminter workbooks are for informational purposes, not investment advice. SEC filings can be amended, taxonomy mappings can vary by issuer, and generated models should be reviewed before being used for decisions.
